MVNU's Albrecht and Austen Earn Weekly Volleyball Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (11-19-2009) - Jackie Albrecht and Kaylin Austen, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s volleyball team, were recently honored for their performances during the week of November 2-8.

Albrecht, a junior middle hitter from Lexington, Ohio, was selected as the American Mideast Conference Player of the Week for the fourth straight week as she averaged 4.86 kills, 5.57 digs, 0.43 blocks, and 0.57 aces during the Lady Cougars’ 2-0 week. The former Mansfield Christian High School standout pounded 14 kills to go with 14 digs in a sweep of Geneva (Pa.) College and then registered 20 kills and 25 digs in a four-set win over Walsh University to close out the regular season.

On the year, Albrecht leads MVNU in kills (538) and aces (51) and she has also compiled 24 assists, 81 blocks, and 526 digs while posting a .304 attack percentage, a .961 serving percentage, and a .949 serve reception percentage. For her career, Albrecht ranks eighth in school history in kills (1,580) and 12th in digs (1,500).

Austen, a senior setter from Shelby, Ohio, was chosen as the National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week after she averaged 11.71 assists, 2.43 digs, 1.00 kills, and 0.29 aces during the week. The former Shelby High School star handed out 42 assists with three kills and five digs in the sweep of Geneva that gave the Lady Cougars their 18th NCCAA East Region title. Then, she added 40 assists, 12 digs, and four kills in the win over Walsh.

On the year, Austen leads MVNU with 1,447 assists. She has also recorded 53 kills, 43 aces, 343 digs, and 39 blocks. For her career, Austen ranks first in school history with 5,505 assists - over 1,200 more than the next closest player. She also ranks 17th on the school’s all-time list with 1,161 digs - more than any other setter in program history.

The Lady Cougars are currently 33-8 overall. They will compete in the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla., on December 3-5. Details about their schedule and opponents will be released next week.
