Sierra Fletcher, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
basketball team, has been selected as both
the American Mideast Conference and the
National Christian College Athletic
Association Player of the Week for her
performance during games played the week of
November 16-22.
Fletcher,
a 5-foot-5 sophomore guard from Utica, Ohio,
averaged 20.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5
assists, and 5.0 steals while shooting 44.8
percent from the field (13-for-29) and 100
percent from the free throw line (12-for-12)
during the Lady Cougars’ 2-0 week as the won
the Stephens (Mo.) College Classic. She
poured in a career-high 24 points with three
steals in a 65-51 win over the University of
Saint Mary (Kan.) in the first round, and
then she added 17 points and a career-high
seven steals in an 82-66 victory over Bethel
(Kan.) College in second round.
On the season, Fletcher is averaging 15.8
points and leads the team with five
three-pointers and 13 steals while also
dishing out 11 assists. She is shooting 48.9
percent from the field (22-for-45), 26.3
percent from three-point range (5-for-19),
and 100 percent from the free throw line
(14-for-14).
MVNU is currently 4-0 overall on the
season. The Lady Cougars will return to
action on December 1 at 6:00 p.m. when they
will travel to Shawnee State University for
their American Mideast Conference opener.
The Lady Bears are ranked No. 5 in the NAIA
Division II preseason poll.
