Standout

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (5-27-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women’s
volleyball team has signed an important
recruit for the 2010 season with the
addition of Morgan Pridemore, who has
decided to further her education at MVNU and
continue her volleyball career with the Lady
Cougars.
Pridemore, a 5-foot-6 defensive specialist/libero
from Springfield, Ohio, was a four-year
varsity performer at Greenon High School
where she led the team for two years in
digs, kills, and aces while being twice
selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player.
The two-time captain was also selected as
the Coach’s Award recipient three times. She
finished her senior season with 127 aces,
180 kills, and 510 digs.
"We are pleased that Morgan is joining the
Lady Cougar volleyball team for 2010,” said
MVNU coach Paul Swanson, who is the NAIA’s
all-time wins leader (922) and has a 907-308
record in 26 years with the Lady Cougars.
"We are adding a great all-around person who
will make a positive impact on our team and
university.”
"Morgan is a high quality volleyball player
who will mainly help us as a back row
specialist or libero,” said Swanson. "She
has had excellent high school and club
experiences that make her ready to compete.
She is also a high quality student and
person. She is an honors student whose
academic goal is to be a physician’s
assistant. The entire team is excited about
the addition of such a well-rounded student,
person, and player.”
In addition to playing volleyball at Greenon
and for six years with the Dayton Juniors
Club - one of the top 15 teams in the OVR
yearly, Pridemore has done numerous
community service activities including
working with Infusion Campus, Interfaith
Hospitality Network, the Arthritis
Foundation, and Holiday in the City. She has
been active in 4-H, Future Farmers of
America, Student Council, Varsity G, Pep
Club, and Prom Committee.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Pridemore of her college choice.
"I was looking for a liberal arts college
strong in the sciences. I visited nine
schools. In addition to finding just the
right fit in a science program, I had to
filter out several volleyball offers. None
of them felt just right. Then, I met my
admissions counselor, Coach Swanson and the
team, and the chair of the science
department at MVNU. It became crystal clear
finally that MVNU is what I was trying so
hard to find, but looking in all the wrong
places.”

"I originally planned a visit to Kenyon
College when I found the signs to MVNU and
decided to just stop by,” Pridemore
continued. "That was the beginning of the
series of events and visits that led me to
decide on MVNU. A Christian university is
what I was looking for, but I just did not
realize it right away. I am so proud to be a
part of the incoming freshman class, to earn
my way within the volleyball team over time,
and to grow as a Christian student with my
own unique perspective. God is good and I am
where I belong.”
MVNU posted a 37-10 overall record in 2009,
won the National Christian College Athletic
Association East Region title, and finished
as the NCCAA National Tournament runner-up
for the second time in program history. The
Lady Cougars have won 30 or more matches in
17 straight seasons.
