MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (5-5-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University men’s basketball
team has added an important recruit for the
2010-2011 season as Marshall Crum has signed
a letter of intent to continue his education
at MVNU and play for the Cougars.
Crum,
a 6-foot-5 forward from Pepper Pike, Ohio,
was a four-year varsity letterman in
basketball with two years at Lorain
Southview High School as a freshman and
sophomore and then his final two years at
Orange High School where he was a
co-captain. He was named to the All-Lake
Erie League Team and the NE Lakes
All-District Special Mention list as a
senior after averaging 14.0 points and 9.0
rebounds in addition to being selected as
his team’s Most Valuable Player. Following
his senior year, Crum played in the Greater
Cleveland Basketball Coaches Association
All-Star Game.
"Marshall will be one of our most versatile
players once he makes the transition to the
college game,” said MVNU coach Matt Moore,
who will be entering his second season with
the Cougars next fall. "He has great hands
with the ability to score in the basket
area, but he will need to add to his
perimeter game in his time here. He has a
great heart for the Lord and I am anxious to
see him develop and be a part of this
campus.”
In addition to playing basketball, Crum
earned a varsity letter in both track and
football at Lorain Southview. He has been
active in the Orange Community Athletic
Association as a referee and referee
coordinator for the youth basketball
program. He is still deciding between
business, psychology, and physical education
as his possible major at MVNU.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Crum of his college choice. "I
felt a connection not only with the
basketball program and Coach Moore, but with
the Christian environment on campus. I knew
the first day I stepped on campus that I
wanted to come here.”

MVNU finished the 2009-2010 season with a
13-16 overall record. Over the past 14
seasons, the Cougars have topped the 20-win
mark 12 times and have advanced to the NAIA
Division II National Tournament eight times.
