MVNU's Barr Named AMC Pitcher of the Week

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (3-24-2010) - Kyle Barr,
a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene
University baseball team, has been selected
as the American Mideast Conference Pitcher
of the Week for his performance during the
week of March 15-21.
Barr,
a 5-foot-11 sophomore right-handed pitcher
from Gahanna, Ohio, posted a 1-0 record
during the week with a 1.08 ERA and two
saves in three appearances. He tossed 8.1
innings and allowed just four hits, two
walks, and one run with nine strikeouts and
a .154 opponents’ batting average against.
The former Bishop Hartley High School
standout began the week by tossing a
four-hitter in a 6-1 victory over West
Virginia Institute of Technology in which he
struck out seven batters and allowed just
one run. Barr then made a relief appearance
in the first game of a doubleheader against
Huntington (Ind.) University as he struck
out the only batter he faced to save a 9-8
victory for the Cougars. He came on in the
second game of the twinbill as well with the
bases loaded and got a double play from the
first batter and struck out the second
batter he faced to save an 8-7 win for MVNU.
On the season, Barr has compiled a 2-1
overall record with two saves and a 2.91
ERA. In 21.2 innings of work he has allowed
just 16 hits, seven runs, and five walks
with a team-high 20 strikeouts. Opposing
hitters are batting just .213 against him.
The Cougars are currently 12-4 overall on
the season. MVNU is scheduled to return to
action on Thursday with a non-conference
doubleheader at home against Urbana
University with the first game slated to get
under way at 2:00 p.m. |  |
