Cougars Sign Loudonville Runner for Cross
Country Team
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (6-16-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University men's cross
country team has signed an important recruit
for the 2010 season with the addition of
Jace Wolford, who has decided to further his
education and continue his running career at
MVNU.
Wolford,
a native of Loudonville, Ohio, was a
two-time captain of the Loudonville High
School cross country team. After being named
to the Mid-Buckeye Conference and Ashland
Times-Gazette Honorable Mention list as a
junior, he was named to the MBC First Team,
the Ashland Times-Gazette First Team, and
the All-Northeast District First Team as a
senior. He set his personal best in the 5K
as a senior when he won the Run through the
Pines race in a time of 16:55. He has also
placed well in several other events.
"I am excited about the opportunity to add
Jace to our running program, said MVNU
coach Chip Wilson, who will enter his fifth
season in 2010. "I had the privilege of
watching him run in a few races this past
fall, and I was very impressed with the way
he ran. He runs hard and he runs through
pain, and I think that with more running
experience he will be able to have a very
successful college running career.
"In the time that I have been able to talk
with Jace, it is clear that he is a team
player and a great listener, Wilson
continued. "I have watched him talk with his
teammates, coaches, and family members, and
he is always listening to what they have to
say. He is a great addition to this team,
and I am looking forward to coaching him
this fall.
In addition to running cross country at
Loudonville, Wolford is a member of National
Technical Honor Society and served as the
president of the Health Occupations Students
of America Club. He received the Outstanding
Bass award in choir in 2008, was the Student
of the Month once, and is a two-year member
of the Honor Roll.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU, said Wolford of his college choice.
"I chose MVNU because it is a great school
and it has a lot to offer me. MVNU will help
shape me into the person God wants me to be.
I prayed about my decision and God told me
MVNU.
The MVNU cross country program was reborn in
the fall of 2006 after not having a program
since the 1979 season. The Cougars have been
competitive in their first four seasons back
on the college cross country map as
evidenced by the teams results as MVNU
finished seventh at the American Mideast
Conference meet in 2009 and ninth at the
National Christian College Athletic
Association meet. | |
