Waynedale Three-Sport Athlete Signs to
Play Soccer at MVNU
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (6-4-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer
team has signed an important recruit for the
2010 season as Amy Weaver has decided to
further her education and continue her
soccer career at MVNU.
Weaver, a forward/midfielder from Apple
Creek, Ohio, set career records at Waynedale
High School for goals (50), assists (22),
and points (122) over the course of her high
school career. She was named to the Wayne
County Athletic League First Team, the
All-District Team, and the Tri-County
Coaches Association First Team each of her
final three years. She was also selected as
the WCAL Co-Player of the Year in 2008.
"We are excited that Amy is joining our Lady
Cougar soccer program,” said MVNU coach
Daniel Seiffert, who guided the Lady Cougars
to their first-ever appearance in the NAIA
National Tournament this past season in his
first year with the team. "She is a very
versatile and talented student-athlete who
has excelled in three sports at Waynedale
High School. She has had great success at
both the high school and club soccer levels
which is evidenced by the fact that she
holds her school’s record as the all-time
leading points producer in goals and
assists.”
"In addition to being an excellent student
and a skilled player, Amy possesses so many
other great qualities,” Seiffert added. "She
has a terrific personality and as a
committed Christian young woman she leads by
example with a servant’s heart - always
encouraging those around her. At the same
time, she is a fierce competitor who
exhibits great determination and grit. These
qualities will serve her well at the
collegiate level. We’re looking forward to
all that God has planned for Amy as she
contributes to our team and the MVNU
community.”
In addition to playing soccer at Waynedale
and for the Ohio Strikers United and Wooster
Edge club teams, Weaver has been involved in
student council, served as a D.A.R.E. senior
role model, selected as the fall homecoming
queen, and was inducted into National Honor
Society. She also played basketball
and softball at Waynedale.

"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Weaver of her college choice. "I
like the Christian environment and the
friendly people. MVNU has a nice campus and
is not too far from home. They also have a
great Education program and an awesome
soccer team.”
MVNU finished the 2009 season with an 11-6-2
overall that included an 8-3 mark in the
American Mideast Conference. The Lady
Cougars, who have won at least a share of
four conference titles in the past seven
years and have claimed two National
Christian College Athletic Association
national titles during that span (2003 and
2006), also captured their first AMC
Tournament title in 2009 on the way to the
berth in the NAIA National Tournament
Opening Round.
