MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (6-21-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team
has added an important recruit for the 2010
season as the Cougars have signed Caleb
Palumbo, who will look to further his
education and continue his soccer career at
MVNU.
Palumbo,
a defender/central midfielder from Galena,
Ohio, was a four-year member of the
Worthington Christian High School soccer
team. He was a two-time Central Catholic
League First Team selection and was named to
the All-Region First Team, All-District
First Team, Central Ohio Super 12 Team, and
the All-Ohio First Team as a senior after
helping his team to an 18-1-4 record and the
Division III state championship.
"We are really excited about having Caleb
join our Cougar soccer family,” said MVNU
coach Paul Furey, who has posted a
240-158-30 overall record in 20 years with
the Cougars. "He is a solid individual from
a terrific Christian home. We believe he
will fit in very nicely at MVNU and will be
a great addition to our soccer program. He
is a state champion, so I like his winning
mindset and competitive spirit. He is an
impact type player and we anticipate him
contributing right away to make our defense
even stronger.”
In addition to playing soccer at Worthington
Christian, Palumbo has played club soccer
for the WASA Eagles FC.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Palumbo of his college choice.
"I like the campus and the business program.
I really like the guys on the soccer team as
well as the coaching staff. They have a
winning tradition, and I like that they
glorify God before, during, and after the
match.”

MVNU posted a 17-7-2 overall record in
2009 and just missed qualifying for the NAIA
National Tournament after advancing to the
NAIA Final Four in 2008. The team also went
2-1 at the National Christian College
Athletic Association National Tournament in
Kissimmee, Fla.
