Lady Cougars Sign Basketball Player from
North Carolina
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (6-16-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's
basketball team has signed an important
recruit for the 2010-2011 season as Hailey
Little has decided to further her education
and continue her basketball career by
attending MVNU and playing for the Lady
Cougars.
Little,
a 6-foot post from Sherrills Ford, North
Carolina, averaged 6.5 points and 7.1
rebounds while shooting 40 percent from the
field and 69 percent from the free throw
line as a senior at Bandys High School. She
was named to the Catawba Valley
All-Conference Team in 2008-2009 and she
helped her team to a 26-5 overall record as
a senior when they advanced to the regional
semifinals.
"We are very excited about the addition of
Hailey to our program and to our
university,” said MVNU coach Steve Gregory.
"She will be a great representative of what
MVNU is all about. She is a strong Christian
and will be a great fit with this group of
girls. I first got to know her at USA Junior
nationals last summer at the University of
Illinois. She played for me at that event
and we have had her on our recruiting radar
ever since.”
"Hailey brings good size and ability to the
table, and she is a strong rebounder,”
Gregory added. "She understands the game and
is extremely coachable. She is a true team
player and values relationships with her
teammates and coaching staff. I expect her
to come in and compete for time at the
center position. I have felt like we have
been very thing at the big forward/center
position for the last two years and we have
addressed that concern with what we have
returning and our new additions this year.”
"I
look forward to the opportunity of working
with Hailey and helping her reach her full
potential as a student, player, and
Christian,” continued Gregory. "She has done
tremendously well academically in high
school - carrying a 4.0+ weighted grade
point average.”
In addition to playing basketball at Bandys
High School and for the ECC Starz team,
Little was a member of National Society of
High School Scholars, National Technical
Honor Society, Varsity Green, and Beta.
MVNU finished the 2009-2010 season with a
21-10 overall record and a 12-7 American
Mideast Conference mark. The Lady Cougars
also finished third at the National
Christian College Athletic Association
National Tournament. | |
