MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (6-17-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer
team has signed an important recruit for the
2010 season as Sara Lipstraw has decided to
further her education and continue her
soccer career at MVNU.
Lipstraw,
a forward from Oak Harbor, Ohio, was a
two-time Sandusky Bay Conference Player of
the Year and a two-time team Most Valuable
Player at Oak Harbor High School. As a
senior, she scored 24 goals and added 13
assists in just 19 matches and she finished
her career as the program’s all-time leader
in goals (97), assists (39), and hat tricks
(13) in addition to tying the single-season
records for most goals (40) and hat tricks
(8) and most goals in a match (5). She was
also named to the All-Ohio Second Team as a
senior.
"We are very excited to have Sara as part of
our women’s soccer program,” said MVNU coach
Daniel Seiffert, who guided the Lady Cougars
to their first-ever appearance in the NAIA
National Tournament this past season in his
first year with the team. "She is a quality
student-athlete who has excelled both in the
classroom and on the soccer field. She loves
the game of soccer and her performance at
Oak Harbor High School bears this out as she
holds several school records.”
"In addition to being a strong player, Sara
exhibits great character, excellent
leadership skills, and a passionate desire
to compete,” Seiffert added. "Her
athleticism, speed, quickness, and technical
strengths will combine very well with our
attacking style of play. All of these
qualities, coupled with her genuine and
caring concern for others and her love for
the Lord, make her a great fit for our
program and university. We are looking
forward to all that God has planned for her
throughout her collegiate career as a Lady
Cougar and as a part of the MVNU community.”
In
addition to playing soccer at Oak Harbor,
Lipstraw has been a member of National Honor
Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes,
and the Leadership Team. She was a senior
Homecoming attendant and the Student of the
Month in October.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Lipstraw of her college choice.
"I love the Christian atmosphere. When I
went on my first visit, I just felt God
wanted me to attend MVNU. I felt happy and
excited, and I had never felt like that
before. My emotions were indescribable. I’m
excited to further my education at MVNU.”

"I also like the excellent Nursing program
at MVNU,” said Lipstraw. "The soccer program
is very good, too. The soccer girls are very
nice and polite and they made me feel
welcome.”
MVNU finished the 2009 season with an 11-6-2
overall that included an 8-3 mark in the
American Mideast Conference. The Lady
Cougars, who have won at least a share of
four conference titles in the past seven
years and have claimed two National
Christian College Athletic Association
national titles during that span (2003 and
2006), also captured their first AMC
Tournament title in 2009 on the way to the
berth in the NAIA National Tournament
Opening Round.
