Delaware Christian Soccer Standout Signs
with Cougars
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (6-3-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team
has added an important recruit for the 2010
season as the Cougars have signed Austin
Hill, who will look to further his education
and continue his soccer career at MVNU.
Hill,
a forward/midfielder from Delaware, Ohio,
was a four-time Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic
League First Team selection as he scored 61
career goals and added 47 assists during his
career at Delaware Christian School. He was
also a three-time All-District First Team
selection and earned All-State Second Team
honors as a sophomore and junior.
"Austin is a talented goal-scorer who had an
extensive experience playing club soccer as
well as being a vital part of his high
school team over the past four years,” said
MVNU coach Paul Furey, who has posted a
240-158-30 overall record in 20 years with
the Cougars. "He is a solid student and
person and a committed Christian, and he
will enhance our campus community. I
anticipate that he will be a goal scorer for
us and as he adjusts to the college game and
our system of play he will be a key asset to
our team success down the road.”
In addition to playing soccer at Delaware
Christian, Hill played club soccer for Grove
City FC (1999-2003), Worthington United
(2003-2005), Columbus Crew Juniors
(2006-2010) and attended the Crew Soccer
Academy (2007-2008). He was a member of
National Honor Society and National
Technical Honor Society and was active in
student government. He also received the OSU/Honda
Partnership Math Medal award.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Hill of his college choice. "I
like the fact that it is a smaller school
that is close to home. I like the Christian
community and MVNU has both good academics
and a good soccer program.”
MVNU posted a 17-7-2 overall record in 2009
and just missed qualifying for the NAIA
National Tournament after advancing to the
NAIA Final Four in 2008. The team also went
2-1 at the National Christian College
Athletic Association National Tournament in
Kissimmee, Fla.
