MVNU Has Record 28 NAIA Scholar-Athletes
in 2009-2010

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (7-13-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University sports teams
combined to produce a school-record 28 NAIA
Scholar-Athletes over the course of the
2009-2010 academic and athletic year.

The MVNU women's fastpitch softball team
and men’s soccer team had the most
honorees as six players from each team were recognized.
Junior second baseman Kristin Kurelic led
the women's fastpitch softball team and all
of MVNU's honorees with a 3.96 grade point
average, while teammates Lauretta Wallace
(3.84), Tasha Konkle (3.75), Liz Misich
(3.67), Caitlin Murphy (3.61), and Stephanie
Burlew (3.57) joined her in being honored. Junior forward Cody Snouffer led the way
on the men's soccer team with a 3.93 grade point average, and he was
joined by teammates Chris Mast (3.84), Brady
Swanson (3.81), Jake Reber (3.70), Scott
Spangler (3.69), and Kemar Jackson (3.64).
The MVNU women’s soccer team and the
men's basketball team each had four
players recognized with the women's soccer
team led by senior defender
Angie Misamore (3.82)and men's basketball
led by Swanson (3.81) - the only MVNU
two-sport recipient this year. Jenessa Loewen (3.77), Mara Hughes (3.71),
and Denče Stentz (3.57) rounded out the
women's soccer honorees, while Jonathan
Gurney (3.75), Travis Brown (3.63), and
Bryce Sanborn (3.62) were the men's
basketball recipients.
The MVNU women’s volleyball team had two
players honored - Courtney Springer (3.89)
and Sarah Yutzy (3.56) - as did the men’s
cross country team - Mark Porostosky (3.80)
and Kenny Alexander (3.73), the women's
basketball team - Kellie Jokela (3.71) and
Kelli Pollock (3.69), and the baseball team
- Kodi Veale (3.92) and Matt Parks (3.88).
