MVNU's Himes Named NCCAA Hoops Player of
the Week

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (2-19-2010) - Amanda
Himes, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s basketball team, has been
selected as the National Christian College
Athletic Association Player of the Week for
her performance during the week of February
8-14.
Himes,
a 6-foot-1 junior center from Hilliard,
Ohio, averaged 21.5 points and 16.5 rebounds
during the Lady Cougars’ 1-1 week. She
poured in a career-high 29 points including
the game-winning basket as the buzzer
sounded in an 80-79 overtime win at the
University of Northwestern Ohio as she also
grabbed a game-high 21 rebounds. The former
Hilliard Darby High School standout then
closed out the week with 14 points and 12
rebounds in a 78-55 loss at NAIA Division II
No. 3 Cedarville University.
On the season, Himes leads MVNU by averaging
19.4 points and 11.8 rebounds while shooting
48.2 percent from the field (202-for-419).
She ranks sixth in all of NAIA Division II
in rebounding, eighth in double-doubles (15
including one in 11 straight games), and
ninth in points.
For her career, Himes ranks second in school
history in field goals made (615), third in
rebounds (856), fifth in points (1,543) and
free throws (313), and sixth in blocked
shots (77).
The Cougars are currently 18-7 overall and
11-6 in the American Mideast Conference.
MVNU will host NAIA Division II No. 9
Shawnee State University in a conference
game at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
