Two Lady Cougars Earn NCCAA All-Americans

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (12-29-2009) - Two
members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s soccer team were recently
honored when the National Christian College
Athletic Association All-American Teams were
announced.

Highlighting the list for the
Lady Cougars was Mara Hughes, a senior
defender from Pickerington, Ohio, who was
named to the NCCAA All-American First Team
for the second straight year. The former
Pickerington North High School standout, who
was also named the NCCAA’s Michelle Akers
Player of the Year award recipient, finished
the season with three goals while helping
the MVNU defense post 10 shutouts.
Jessica Estep, a junior forward from
Mansfield, Ohio, was named an NCCAA
Honorable Mention All-American after being
on the NCCAA All-American Second Team the
previous two years. The former Madison High
School star led the Lady Cougars with 10
goals this year to go with one assist. Estep
now ranks fourth in school history with 52
career goals and fourth with 117 career
points.
MVNU finished the 2009 campaign with an
11-6-2 overall record and an 8-3 American
Mideast Conference mark. The Lady Cougars
also advanced to the NAIA National
Championship Opening Round for the first
time in program history where they fell 3-0
at eventual national champion Lee (Tenn.)
University.
