Four members of the Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women’s
volleyball team were honored along with
their coach when the National Christian
College Athletic Association East Region
honors were announced recently.

Jackie Albrecht, a junior middle hitter
from Lexington, Ohio, highlighted the list
for MVNU as she was named the NCCAA East
Region Player of the Year for the second
straight year. The former Mansfield
Christian High School standout leads the
Lady Cougars with 609 kills so far this
season - the 10th highest single-season
total in school history. Albrecht has also
posted 595 digs, 55 aces, and 93 blocks this
year. For her career, she now ranks eighth
in school history with 1,651 kills and tenth
with 1,569 digs.
Head coach Paul Swanson was also selected
as the NCCAA East Region Coach of the Year
for the 17th time in 26 seasons as he led
MVNU to its 18th NCCAA East Region title and
a trip to NCCAA National Tournament. The
Lady Cougars, who are currently 36-9
overall, will face Malone University in the
NCCAA National Tournament semifinals at
10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Kaylin Austen, a senior setter from
Shelby, Ohio, joined Albrecht on the NCCAA
East Region Team as she earned the honor for
the third straight season. The former Shelby
High School product leads MVNU with 1,624
assists to go with 44 blocks, 49 aces, 57
kills, and 409 digs. For her career, Austen
now has 5,682 assists - the most in school
history. She also ranks 17th in school
history with 1,227 digs - more than any
other setter.
Courtney Springer, a senior right-side
hitter from Van Wert, Ohio, was also named
to the NCCAA East Region Team for the third
straight year. The former Crestview High
School star has compiled 23 aces, 66 blocks,
77 assists, 328 kills, and 435 digs this
season. Springer now ranks ninth in school
history with 1,523 career kills and seventh
with 1,715 career digs.
Sarah Yutzy, a junior middle hitter from
West Jefferson, Ohio, also earned NCCAA East
Region Honorable Mention. The former West
Jefferson High School product has posted
career highs with 381 kills, 129 digs, and a
team-leading 164 blocks.
