Five Cougars Earn NCCAA East Region
Soccer Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (12-11-2009) - Five
members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene
University men’s soccer team were recently
honored when the National Christian College
Athletic Association East Region Team was
announced by vote of the region coaches.
Highlighting the list was senior goalkeeper
Alex Stout from Pataskala, Ohio, who was
named the NCCAA East Region Player of the
Year. The former Watkins Memorial High
School star finished the season with a
school record-tying 14 shutouts and a 0.77
goals against average in 25 matches. For his
career, Stout also finished tied for second
in NAIA history with 40 shutouts.

Kemar Jackson, a junior defender from St.
Catherine, Jamaica, finished right behind
Stout in the Player of the Year voting as he
earned a spot on the NCCAA East Region Team.
The former Wolmers High School product
started all 26 matches and helped anchor the
defense that posted a school-record 16 total
shutouts. Jackson also finished with four
goals and two assists.
Cody Snouffer, a junior forward from
Delaware, Ohio, was also named to the NCCAA
East Region Team for the second straight
year. The former Delaware Christian High
School standout led the Cougars with career
highs of 11 goals and 12 assists. Snouffer
now has 19 goals and 20 assists in his
career with one season to go.

Scott Spangler, a senior midfielder from
Pataskala, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA East
Region Team for the fourth straight season.
The former teammate of Stout’s at Watkins
Memorial finished with two goals and tied
for the team lead with 12 assists this year.
Spangler finishes with six career goals and
ranks sixth in school history with 27 career
assists.
Brady Swanson, a senior defender from
Mount Vernon, Ohio, rounded out the MVNU
players on the NCCAA East Region Team. The
former Mount Vernon High School standout
joined Jackson on the backline to post 16
shutouts as he led the team in minutes
played with 2,369. Swanson also scored six
goals and finished his career with 16 goals
and four assists.
MVNU closed out its season with a 17-7-2
overall record that included winning the
NCCAA East Region title and going 2-1 at the
NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.
