written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (12-30-2009) - Jackie
Albrecht, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s volleyball team,
was recently recognized when the NAIA
All-American Teams were announced.
Albrecht,
a junior middle hitter from Lexington, Ohio,
became only the third player in school
history to be named to the NAIA All-American
Second Team and the first junior as she
joined former standouts Tara Seiter (1998)
and Shena Beheler (2007). The former
Mansfield Christian High School standout,
who was an NAIA Honorable Mention
All-American as a sophomore, led the Lady
Cougars with 635 kills this year - the ninth
highest single-season total in school
history. Albrecht also posted 638 digs, 56
aces, and 95 blocks this year. For her
career, she now ranks eighth in school
history with 1,677 kills and ninth with
1,612 digs.
Among her many honors this season,
Albrecht was the American Mideast Conference
Player of the Week four times on her way to
being named the AMC Player of the Year. She
was also the National Christian College
Athletic Association East Region Player of
the Year as well as the NCCAA National
Player of the Year as she made the NCCAA
All-American First Team for the second
straight season.
MVNU finished the 2009 season with a
37-10 overall record and a 10-2 American
Mideast Conference mark. The Lady Cougars
also finished as the NCCAA national
runner-up for the second time in program
history.
