2010-2011 Season
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (4-14-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University mens basketball
team has added an important recruit for the
2010-2011 season as Caleb Williams has
signed a letter of intent to continue his
education at MVNU and play for the Cougars.
Williams,
a 6-foot-8 post player from New Bremen,
Ohio, was a three-year varsity letterman at
New Bremen High School. As a senior, he was
named to the All-Conference First Team and
the District 8 Second Team as well as
All-Northwest Ohio Special Mention after
averaging 8.4 points and 6.1 rebounds while
shooting 48 percent from the field and
blocking 56 shots to go with 76 assists. In
addition, he was selected to play in the
District 8 All-Star Game following his
senior season.
"Caleb embodies a true student-athlete and
is the type of person and player we are
trying to build our program around, said
MVNU coach Matt Moore, who will be entering
his second season with the Cougars when
Williams joins the squad in the fall. "He
has a very high basketball IQ with a passion
to compete. I think as he develops
physically and mentally at the college level
he will have the chance to be a special
player. I am very excited to add Caleb to
our basketball family.
In addition to playing basketball at New
Bremen, Williams was a two-year varsity
letterman in football as an All-Conference
Honorable Mention quarterback and a
three-year varsity letterman in track in the
high jump. A member of the honor roll every
quarter, he was also a member of National
Honor Society and received the
scholar-athlete award in football (two
years), basketball (three years), and track
(three years).

"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU, said Williams of his college choice.
"I like the family-like atmosphere of the
entire campus and the basketball program. I
was also impressed with the pride that
everyone had in the university.
MVNU finished the 2009-2010 season with a
13-16 overall record. Over the past 14
seasons, the Cougars have topped the 20-win
mark 12 times and have advanced to the NAIA
Division II National Tournament eight times.
