Runner for 2010
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (4-21-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women’s cross
country team has signed an important recruit
for the 2010 season with the addition of
Alex Reasoner, who has decided to further
her education and continue her running
career at MVNU.
Reasoner,
a native of Millersport, Ohio, was a
four-time Central District First Team
selection and regional qualifer at
Millersport High School while also earning a
spot on the Mid State League First Team
three times. She won the Licking Heights
Invitational in both 2006 and 2008 and the
Buckeye Valley Invitational in 2007 and the
Ray Russell Invitational in 2009. She is
also a four-time winner of the Buckeye Lake
Championship. She has a personal best time
of 19:28 in the 5K.
"I am very excited to welcome Alex to this
team of hard-working and talented girls,”
said MVNU coach Chip Wilson, who will enter
his fifth season in 2010. "I have been very
impressed with her running abilities and I
know she will make an immediate impact on
this young team. She brings with her so many
positive qualities along with being a solid
runner that will make her a great fit at
MVNU.”
"Alex has already started friendships with a
few of the girls on the team and I know with
her personality that it won’t take long for
her to make an impact on our campus,” Wilson
continued. "She has a lot to look forward to
at MVNU, and we are looking forward to
seeing her in action this fall.”
In addition to running cross country at
Millersport, Reasoner was a four-year
participant in track including setting the
school record in the 1600 meters at 5:28 and
the sophomore season scoring record with 242
¼ points. She has posted a 4.018 grade point
average and is the president of National
Honor Society as well as an academic varsity letterwinner. She has been involved in
Buckeye Girls State, Student Council,
Fellowship of Christian Athletes,
Illumination Show Choir, Tri-M Honor
Society, and Lancaster LaSertoma. She was
also Millersport’s girl’s recipient of the
Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.
"The main reason I am attending MVNU is
because this is where God is telling me to
go,” said Reasoner of her college choice.
"My faith in Jesus Christ is the most
important part of my life. I believe the
Christian atmosphere at MVNU will be a
wonderful place for me to grow in my faith
as I pursue my degree in Criminal Justice. I
look forward to running cross country for
the Lady Cougars and to meeting all of my
new teammates. I am excited to see how God
will use me at MVNU and all that He has in
store for me.”
The MVNU cross country program was reborn in
the fall of 2006 after not having a program
since the 1979 season. The Lady Cougars have
been competitive in their first four seasons
back on the college cross country map as
evidenced by the team’s results as MVNU
finished 10th at the American Mideast
Conference meet in 2009 and 13th at the
National Christian College Athletic
Association meet. | |
