Mark Porostosky, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s
cross country team, was recently selected as
the National Christian College Athletic
Association Student-Athlete of the Week for
his performance during the week of September
1-7.
Porostosky,
a junior from Madison, Ohio, led the Cougars
to a third-place finish out of seven teams
at the season-opening Shawnee State
University Invitational. The former Madison
High School standout covered the
eight-kilometer course in 27:20.0 to finish
10th out of 73 runners in the event.
In Porostosky’s three years at MVNU, he
has been the team's top finisher in each
race that the Cougars have run as he has
helped to restart the program that returned
in 2006 after a 27-year absence. He holds
the school record at the eight-kilometer
distance at 26:11.5 set last year at the
Wilmington College Invitational.
MVNU will return to action this Saturday
at the Cedarville University Invitational.
The women’s race will begin at 10:00 a.m.
with the men’s race to follow at 10:45 a.m.
