Jackie Albrecht, a sophomore middle
hitter from Lexington, Ohio, highlighted the
list as she was named the NCCAA East Region
Player of the Year. The former Mansfield
Christian High School standout leads the
Lady Cougars in kills (470), digs (434), and
serve reception percentage (.953). She has
also recorded 110 blocks, 39 aces, and a
.963 serving percentage.
Courtney Springer, a junior right-side
hitter from Van Wert, Ohio, joined Albrecht
on the NCCAA East Region Team as she earned
the honor for the second straight year. The
former Crestview High School star has
compiled 311 kills, 381 digs, 102 blocks, 71
assists, and 51 aces while posting a .947
serve reception percentage and a .944
serving percentage.
Kaylin Austen, a junior setter from
Shelby, Ohio, was also a repeat selection on
the NCCAA East Region Team for the second
year in a row. The former Shelby High School
standout has handed out 1,269 assists so far
this season to go with 37 aces, 38 blocks,
and 255 digs while serving at a .945 clip.
Gina Porto, a freshman middle hitter from
Tipp City, Ohio, was an NCCAA East Region
Honorable Mention pick. The former
Tippecanoe High School product has
registered 286 kills, 55 digs, and a
team-high 117 blocks in her first collegiate
season.
Head coach Paul Swanson (below) was also named
the NCCAA East Region Coach of the Year
after guiding MVNU to its 17th NCCAA East
Region title in the past 18 years. The Lady
Cougars are currently 28-7 overall and 6-3
in the American Mideast Conference. The team
will return to action on Saturday with a
conference tri-match at Carlow (Pa.)
University with a 1:00 p.m. match against
the University of Rio Grande and a 3:00 p.m.
contest against host Carlow.
