Alex Stout, a member of the
Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s
soccer team, has been selected as the
National Christian College Athletic
Association Player of the Week for his
performance during the week of October
13-19.
Stout,
a junior from Pataskala, Ohio, helped the
Cougars to an important 2-0 American Mideast
Conference victory at Ohio Dominican
University in the team’s only match of the
week. The former Watkins Memorial High
School standout stopped all five shots on
goal in the match to notch his eighth
shutout of the season that tied him with
former MVNU star Trevor Knowles for the
all-time school record of 20 shutouts.
On the season, Stout has started in 14 of
the team’s 16 matches and played in 15 of
them. He has allowed just 10 goals in
1326:17 with nine shutouts for a microscopic
0.68 goals against average. In the Cougars’
most recent match against NCAA Division II
No. 20 Ashland University on Tuesday, he
broke the school shutout record as he
registered his ninth of the season and the
21st of his career. He needs just one more
shutout to tie the single-season school mark
of 10 that he earned a share of last season.
The Cougars are currently 11-3-2 overall
and 6-1-2 in the AMC. MVNU, which received
votes in the latest NAIA poll, will return
to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when the
team will host Daemen (N.Y.) College in
another conference match.
