Caitlin Campbell and Mark
Porostosky, members of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s and men’s cross
country teams respectively, have been
selected as the National Christian College
Athletic Association Student-Athlete of the
Week in their sports for their performance
during the week of October 13-19.
Campbell, a freshman from Bainbridge, Ohio,
set a new personal best at the Wilmington
College Invitational last Friday when she
covered the five-kilometer course in 21:18.1
to just miss the MVNU women’s cross country
record by seven seconds. The former Paint
Valley High School star has excelled for the
Lady Cougars in her first collegiate season
as she has been the top finisher for MVNU in
each of the team’s first five races this
year.
Porostosky, a junior from Madison, Ohio,
received the NCCAA weekly honor for the
second time this year as he broke his own
school record by finishing 14th out of 238
runners at the Wilmington Invitational by
covering the eight-kilometer course in
26:00.4. The former Madison High School
standout has been the top finisher for the
Cougars in all 20 races he has run in since
the start of his freshman season including
all five races so far this year.
