Estep, a sophomore forward from
Mansfield, Ohio, scored two goals and added
an assist in the Lady Cougars’5-0 victory
over Cedarville University in the first
round of the American Mideast Conference
Tournament. The former Madison High School
star, who earned the AMC weekly honor for
the second time this season, was also
selected as the National Christian College
Athletic Association Player of the Week.
On the season, Estep leads MVNU with 18
goals in 19 matches while also registering
seven assists. She already ranks fifth in
school history with 40 career goals in less
than two complete seasons.
Hughes, a junior defender from
Pickerington, Ohio, helped the Lady Cougars’
defense limit Cedarville to just six total
shots and only two shots on goal to avenge a
2-0 loss to the Lady Jackets during the
regular season. The former Pickerington
North High School standout, who was also
picking up her second AMC weekly honor of
the year, also assisted on one goal.
On the season, Hughes has registered five
goals and one assist while starting all 19
matches. She has anchored the MVNU back line
that has posted nine shutouts and allowed
just 19 goals.
The Lady Cougars are currently 12-6-1
overall and in the midst of a five-match
winning streak. MVNU, the No. 4 seed, will
travel to top-seeded Ohio Dominican
University on Friday for an AMC Tournament
semifinal match that will take place at 4:00
p.m. The other semifinal will feature No. 2
seed Notre Dame College versus No. 3 seed
Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College. The two
winners will then advance to the AMC
Tournament championship match on Saturday at
7:00 p.m. with that winner receiving an
automatic berth into the NAIA National
Tournament Opening Round on November 22.
