Adam Worrall, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s
soccer team, was recently selected as the
American Mideast Conference Offensive Player
of the Week for the third time this season
when he earned the honor for the week of
October 27-November 2.
Worrall,
a senior forward from Blacklick, Ohio, led
the Cougars to a 1-0 record during that week
as MVNU closed out the regular season with a
2-1 victory over Walsh University that
extended the team’s winning streak to nine
straight matches to equal the school record
set previously in 1984. The former Gahanna
Lincoln High School standout scored the
game-winning goal in the 81st minute of that
match as he notched his eighth game-winning
goal of the season and his fifth in
conference play.
Worrall currently leads the Cougars with
19 goals in 18 matches to go along with a
team-high eight assists. He now ranks fourth
in school history with 41 career goals and
sixth with 99 career points.
MVNU is currently 13-3-2 overall and
finished second in the AMC standings with an
8-1-2 conference mark for the team’s highest
conference finish since sharing the Mid-Ohio
Conference title in 1984. The Cougars, who
are ranked No. 25 in the latest NAIA poll -
the first time that MVNU has ever cracked
the Top 25, will host their first-ever NAIA
postseason match on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
when No. 5 University of Rio Grande will
come to Cougar Field for an AMC Tournament
semifinal match. The winner will advance to
the AMC Tournament championship match on
Saturday.
