Courtney Springer, a member
of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University
women’s volleyball team, was recently
honored when the ESPN The Magazine® Academic
All-District IV College Division Teams were
announced by the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Springer,
a junior right-side hitter from Van Wert,
Ohio, has compiled 369 kills, 445 digs, 111
blocks, 56 aces, and 81 assists. The former
Crestview High School star has posted a .948
serving percentage and a .955 serve
reception percentage. She recently became
the 12th player in school history to top
both 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career
digs. In the classroom, the Biology and
Pre-Physical Therapy double major has posted
a 3.89 grade point average to land a spot on
the ESPN The Magazine® Academic All-District
Second Team.
The ESPN The Magazine® Academic
All-District IV College Division Teams are
nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA.
Eligible student-athletes must have a 3.30
grade point average and be at least in their
sophomore year. The District IV College
Division is made up of NCAA Division II and
III and NAIA schools in Alabama, Kentucky,
Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.
MVNU finished the regular season with a
32-8 overall record and received votes in
the most recent NAIA poll. The Lady Cougars
were also fourth in the AMC standings with a
10-4 conference mark. With AMC champion
Walsh University already securing an
automatic berth into the NAIA National
Tournament Opening Round, regular-season
runner-up Shawnee State University will be
the host and top seed in the six-team AMC
Tournament that starts on Friday in
Portsmouth, Ohio. MVNU, the No. 3 seed, will
take on No. 6 seed Malone University at 3:00
p.m. on Friday in the first round. The
winner will advance to the semifinals on
Saturday against No. 2 seed Ohio Dominican
University at 11:00 a.m. The winner of the
AMC Tournament will also advance to the NAIA
National Tournament Opening Round on
November 22.
