Jenessa Loewen, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
soccer team, was recently honored for her
play during the week of October 27-November
2 when she was named the American Mideast
Conference Defensive Player of the Week for
the second time this season.
During
that week, Loewen, a sophomore goalkeeper
from Gravenhurst, Ontario, led the Lady
Cougars to a pair of shutout conference
victories. In a 7-0 victory at Malone
University, the former Gravenhurst High
School standout stopped two shots in 56
minutes of action. Then, she closed the week
with three saves in playing all 90 minutes
in a 5-0 win over Walsh University to close
out the regular season.
On the season, Loewen has played in 18 of
the team’s 19 matches with 17 starts. She
has posted six shutouts and has a 1.04 goals
against average as the team has allowed just
19 goals in 19 matches with nine total
shutouts.
MVNU is currently 12-6-1 overall and in
the midst of a five-match winning streak.
The Lady Cougars will return to action on
Friday at 4:00 p.m. when the team will
travel to Ohio Dominican University for an
AMC Tournament semifinal match against the
top-seeded Lady Panthers. The winner of that
match will advance to the AMC Tournament
championship match on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
for a shot at earning a berth in the NAIA
National Tournament Opening Round.
