Amanda Himes, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
basketball team, was recently selected as
both the American Mideast Conference and
National Christian College Athletic
Association Player of the Week for her
performance in games during the week of
November 10-16.
Himes,
a 6-foot-1 sophomore center from Hilliard,
Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 2-0 record
for the week as she averaged 22.5 points,
17.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks.
The former Hilliard Darby High School
standout scored 17 points and grabbed 12
rebounds in a 49-39 victory over Ohio
Dominican University to open the season. She
added career highs of 28 points, 23
rebounds, and three blocked shots in a 65-45
victory over the University of Northwestern
Ohio. The 23 rebounds was the second-highest
single-game total in school history trailing
only the 25-rebound performance of Kathy
Bailey during the 1977-1978 season.
On the season, Himes leads MVNU in
scoring (22.0 ppg), rebounding (15.3 rpg),
and blocked shots (8). She is shooting 43.5
percent from the field (27-for-62) and 52.2
percent from the free throw line
(12-for-23). She has also contributed three
assists and seven steals through three
games.
The Lady Cougars are currently 3-0 on the
season and will return to action on Friday
at the Bluffton College Tournament. MVNU
will square off with Thiel (Pa.) College at
