The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s volleyball team will
honor its lone senior on Tuesday night at
7:00 p.m. prior to the Lady Cougars’
American Mideast Conference match with
Malone University to close out the
regular-season.
Audrey
Hickinbotham, an outside hitter from
Mansfield, Ohio, has helped lead MVNU to a
102-30 overall record (.773 winning
percentage) over the past three seasons
since transferring from Asbury (Ky.) College
after her freshman season. The Lady Cougars
have won three National Christian College
Athletic Association East Region titles, one
AMC title, and one NAIA Region IX
championship. The team also advanced to the
NAIA National Tournament for the first time
in program history last year.
During her three years at MVNU,
Hickinbotham has compiled 670 kills, 579
digs, 104 aces, and 98 blocks in 324 career
sets. The former Mansfield Christian High
School standout was an AMC South Division
Honorable Mention selection last year when
she pounded a career-high 367 kills to go
with 51 aces and 195 digs. This season, she
has recorded 234 kills and a career-high 341
digs despite missing the last seven matches
due to an injury.
"Audrey has been a great addition to our
team the past three years,” said MVNU coach
Paul Swanson. "She is a fine all-around
player who has great versatility in that she
can play all three hitting positions well.
She packs a big punch as an attacker. She
has also worked hard on her backrow skills
and has done a great job for us in the
backrow this year.”
"Without a doubt, Audrey has been a major
contributor to our success on the court over
the last three seasons,” Swanson added.
"What makes her so special, though, is her
off the court influence. She is an awesome
teammate who goes out of her way to include,
encourage, and help a teammate. She lives
her faith in Jesus every day on and off the
court. She has been a great blessing to me
and everyone on our team.”
The Lady Cougars are currently 32-7
overall and 10-3 in the AMC. MVNU will
clinch third place in the AMC standings with
a win over Malone on Tuesday night and would
receive a bye into the semifinals of the AMC
Tournament on November 15. The winner of the
six-team AMC Tournament will advance on to
the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round
to be held at campus sites on November 22.
