Candace White, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
fastpitch softball team, was recently
selected as the American Mideast Conference
Pitcher of the Week for her performance
during the week of April 20-26.
White,
a senior right-handed pitcher from Gahanna,
Ohio, appeared in five of the Lady Cougars’
six games during the week as the team posted
a 5-1 record. The former Gahanna Lincoln
High School standout went 4-0 on the mound
with a 1.89 ERA. In 29.1 innings of work
during the week, White allowed just eight
earned runs with 18 strikeouts and seven
walks. She tossed back-to-back complete game
victories over the University of Rio Grande,
while also posting complete game wins over
Urbana University and Geneva (Pa.) College
while also making one relief appearance
against Geneva as well.
On the season, White set new school
records with 37 appearances, 24 complete
games, 198.2 innings pitched, and 146
strikeouts. She finished the year with a
20-12 record on the mound and four shutouts
as she appeared in all but two of MVNU’s 39
games. Opposing batters hit just .252
against her.
The Lady Cougars finished the season with
a 22-17 overall record and a 12-8 AMC mark.
MVNU earned the No. 4 seed in the AMC
Tournament and advanced all the way to the
championship game before falling 4-2 to
regular-season champion Notre Dame College.
