The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s basketball team has
signed an important recruit for the
2009-2010 season as Camaranne Myles has
decided to further her education and
continue her basketball career at MVNU.
Myles,
a 5-foot-7 shooting guard from Centerburg,
Ohio, averaged 15.8 points, 5.7 rebounds,
1.9 assists, and 1.7 steals per game as a
senior at Centerburg High School as she was
named to the Mid-Buckeye Conference Second
Team and the All-District First Team. The
four-year varsity letterwinner was also a
two-time MBC Honorable Mention pick.
“Camaranne has obviously had a great
career,” said MVNU coach Steve Gregory.
“This year, she stepped out of the shadows
and was a much more well-rounded player.
There is no better time to do that than your
senior year. We knew she could shoot the
ball - she shoots really well from the
perimeter and we like to shoot a lot of
threes. The other aspect of her game she has
improved was taking the ball to the basket.
She is a slasher and that makes her more
difficult to guard. She is also someone who
can be counted on for leadership. She has a
lot of positives and they all bode well for
what we do.”
“I have known Camaranne for a long time
and the type of character she has always
exuded and exemplified is the type of kid we
are looking for at MVNU,” Gregory added.
“Any time you can recruit kids from your
local area, it is a positive. It is nice
that she wanted to stay local and closer to
home. Hopefully, she will have an impact for
us.”
In addition to playing basketball at
Centerburg and on several AAU teams, Myles
was a two-year varsity letterwinner in
volleyball and was a MBC First Team and
All-District First Team selection as a
senior.
“I have grown up in a Christian
environment and continuing my education in a
Christian atmosphere is one of my goals,”
said Myles of her college choice. “My sister
(Caitlin) is currently enrolled in the
nursing program and has played volleyball
for two years at MVNU. I have participated
in numerous camps and clinics with Coach
Gregory and have admired the athletes for
the devotion to the athletic programs and
their desire to communicate their faith to
the participants. I have a desire to reach
out to others and fell that MVNU provides
numerous opportunities for this.”

MVNU finished the 2008-2009 season with a
27-9 overall record - the best in school
history - as the Lady Cougars captured their
third National Christian College Athletic
Association national title and also finished
as the American Mideast Conference
Tournament runner-up.
