The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s volleyball team has added
an important recruit for the 2009 season
with the addition of Kaylee Hewitt, who has
decided to further her education at MVNU and
continue her volleyball career with the Lady
Cougars.
Hewitt,
a 5-foot-8 right-side hitter/defensive
specialist/setter from Alanson, Mich., was a
three-time All-Conference and All-Region
selection at Harbor Light Christian School.
As a senior she compiled 420 kills, 85
blocks, 633 digs, and 104 aces as she was
named to the All-State Second Team. She was
also a two-time selection to the All-Area
Dream Team. She helped her team to five
straight conference titles as she played on
the team as an eighth-grader and she also
made three appearances in the state Final
Four. She holds the school records for aces
in a season (175), solo blocks in a season
(58), and digs in a season (695).
“We are extremely pleased that Kaylee has
decided to make MVNU her college home,” said
MVNU coach Paul Swanson, who is the NAIA’s
all-time wins leader (885) and has an
870-298 record in 25 years with the Lady
Cougars. “She is a perfect fit for our
institution and volleyball program. We are
gaining a committed Christian young woman, a
strong student who is excited about her
Pre-Physical Therapy major, a delightful
personality who will blend with our team
positively, and a very talented athlete and
volleyball player.”
“Kaylee
is an excellent all-around player who will
mostly help us in the back row,” Swanson
added. “She has experienced much success in
high school and we are looking forward to
her continuing that here at MVNU.”
In addition to playing volleyball at
Harbor Light, Hewitt has played for both the
Roger City and North Michigan club teams.
She has earned Academic All-Conference
honors as well as being an Honor Roll
student. She also served as the student
council chaplain.
“There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Hewitt of her college choice. “I
love the school and I believe I am a great
fit. The volleyball program is also
outstanding and I want to play for Coach
Swanson.”
MVNU posted a 36-11 overall record in
2008, won the National Christian College
Athletic Association East Region title, and
finished as an NCCAA National Tournament
semifinalist. The Lady Cougars have won 30
or more matches in 16 straight seasons.
