Drayer, a 5-foot-5 point guard from
Waterford, Ohio, helped Waterford High
School to 83 wins, four sectional and
district titles, and four appearances in the
Division IV Sweet Sixteen during her career
as she compiled 1,331 points while averaging
3.3 assists, 3.2 steals, and 4.1 rebounds as
a four-year starter. She was a three-time
Tri-Valley Conference First Team and
Southeastern District First Team selection
as well as a three-time All-Ohio Honorable
Mention pick. She played in both the Ohio
North-South All-Star Game and the Ohio-West
Virginia All-Star Game following her senior
season.
"Jessi had another outstanding season
this year and ends her four-year run with
over 1,300 points to her credit,” said MVNU
coach Steve Gregory. "That speaks to the
fact that she can score and create scoring
chances for both her teammates and herself
off the dribble. She is a very good passer
who sees the open floor well and does a
great job of getting the ball ahead in
transition. She is a hard-nosed defender who
does not back down from competition and is a
teammate who is well-respected by her peers.
She knocks down the three effectively and
efficiently and is a very well-rounded
player. I expect her to come in and compete
right away at the point and shooting guard
positions.”
"Needless to say, we are thrilled with
Jessi’s decision to attend MVNU next fall,”
Gregory added. "She will be a great addition
to our team. She not only will help us on
the court, but she brings youthful
enthusiasm for what our university stands
for. She is genuinely excited about the
expectations placed on her off the floor as
well as on - the biggest of which is to be a
Christian leader and example in all that she
does. We are not only pleased with the
addition of Jessi, but the addition of
another great set of parents and her
sisters. Jessi is second in line of the
Drayer’s four daughters which is a
passionate basketball family with strong
Christian values.”
"I look forward to getting to work with
Jessi over the next four years,” Gregory
continued. "She has worked hard in the
classroom and has done very well
academically in addition to her athletic
pursuits. I think she will be an outstanding
player for us, but more importantly a strong
representative of Christ in all that she
does.”
In addition to playing basketball at
Waterford, Drayer was also a member of the
volleyball and track team and advanced all
the way to the state track meet. She was
also a member of the Ohio Express, the
Southeastern Ohio Shox, and the Southeastern
Ohio Starz AAU teams.
"I chose to attend MVNU because it is a
college closer to home that also provided me
with my major of choice and an opportunity
to play basketball,” said Drayer of her
college choice. "I also liked the fact that
the college is a Christian University. I
visited the campus and really liked the
atmosphere and the many friendly people. The
buildings are also very nice and have newer
technology.”

MVNU finished the 2008-2009 season with a
27-9 overall record - the best in school
history - as the Lady Cougars captured their
third National Christian College Athletic
Association national title and also finished
as the American Mideast Conference
Tournament runner-up.
