Seven members of the Mount
Vernon Nazarene University baseball team
were honored recently when the American
Mideast Conference honors were selected by
the AMC coaches and announced by the
conference office.
Josh Estep, a senior second
baseman/pitcher from Gahanna, Ohio, was
selected to the AMC First Team for the third
straight year and was also chosen as the AMC
Rawlings Gold Glove winner at second base.
The former Gahanna Lincoln High School
standout is batting .378 with eight doubles,
one triple, three home runs, 37 runs scored,
10 stolen bases, and a team-leading 50 RBI.
He has also committed just five errors at
second base on the year. On the mound, Estep
also posted a 5-2 record with a 3.14 ERA
with 51 strikeouts in 51.2 innings of work.
Kodi Veale, a junior outfielder from
Mount Vernon, Ohio, was on of four
outfielders named to the AMC First Team. The
former Mount Vernon High School product has
started all 52 games in centerfield and is
batting .344 with 13 doubles, a team-leading
five triples, three home runs, 40 RBI, and
47 runs scored. Veale has also stolen 11
bases and has just two errors in the
outfield.
Clint Yoder, a freshman shortstop from
Berlin, Ohio, joined Estep and Veale on the
AMC First Team as the extra infielder. The
former Hiland High School star is batting
.405 with 14 doubles, two triples, two home
runs, 29 runs scored, and 41 RBI. Yoder has
started 49 games at shortstop and leads the
team with 135 assists.
Chaz Gibson, a freshman outfielder from
Lancaster, Ohio, was named to the AMC Second
Team. The former Fairfield Union High School
standout is batting .374 with 11 doubles,
one triple, a team-high seven home runs, 31
runs scored, and 34 RBI. Gibson also leads
the team with a .692 slugging percentage.
Jason Decker, a senior right-handed
pitcher from Dover, Pa., was an AMC
Honorable Mention selection. The former
Dover High School product has posted a 6-6
record on the mound with a 4.76 ERA and a
team-leading seven complete games. Decker
has tossed a team-high 73.2 innings on the
year and has registered 56 strikeouts with
just 10 walks.
Matt Parks, a junior infielder from Mount
Vernon, Ohio, was also an AMC Honorable
Mention pick. The former Mount Vernon High
School star is batting .317 with 12 doubles,
two triples, three home runs, 40 runs
scored, 10 stolen bases, and 28 RBI. Parks
also leads the team having been hit by a
pitch 16 times.
Steve Williams, a sophomore outfielder
from Cincinnati, Ohio, was another AMC
Honorable Mention selection for the Cougars.
The former Milford High School graduate is
batting .331 with nine doubles, three
triples, two home runs, 38 runs scored, and
39 RBI. Williams has also committed just two
errors in the outfield while starting every
game in leftfield.
MVNU is currently 33-19 overall and
finished fourth in the AMC with a 20-12
conference mark. The Cougars will be the No.
3 seed in the 10-team double elimination
National Christian College Athletic
Association National Tournament that will
get under way at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio
on Wednesday. MVNU will take on No. 6 seed
Cedarville University in the first game at
1:00 p.m. The games will be broadcast online
