basketball team and their head coach were
recently honored when the National Christian
College Athletic Association East Region
awards were announced.

Ben Falkenberg, a 5-foot-11 senior guard
from Wadsworth, Ohio, highlighted the list
for the Cougars as he was selected as the
NCCAA East Region Player of the Year for the
third straight year. The former Wadsworth
High School star leads MVNU in scoring (19.3
points per game) and assists (129), ranks
first in NAIA Division II in free throw
percentage (90.8) and sixth in
three-pointers made per game (3.5). He is
also shooting 48.8 percent from the field
overall and 45.3 percent from three-point
range.
Jadin Thomas, a 6-foot-4 senior forward
from Lithopolis, Ohio, joined Falkenberg on
the NCCAA East Region First Team after being
on the NCCAA East Region Second Team last
year. The former Columbus West High School
standout is averaging 14.2 points and a
team-leading 8.5 rebounds. He also leads the
team with 39 blocked shots and is shooting
46.2 percent from the field to go with 38
steals.
Dan Borcherdt, a 6-foot senior guard from
Archbold, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA East
Region Second Team. The former Archbold High
School star is averaging 11.5 points, 2.8
rebounds, and 2.6 assists and is shooting
90.9 percent from the free throw line with
just under the minimum number of attempts to
qualify as the nation’s top free throw
shooter ahead of Falkenberg.
Head coach Scott Flemming was also chosen
as the NCCAA East Region Coach of the Year.
MVNU, which topped the 20-win mark for the
12th time in 13 seasons, is currently 23-8
overall and ranked No. 12 in the final NAIA
Division II poll. The Cougars will be the
No. 10 seed in the 32-team NAIA Division II
National Tournament that will tip off in
Point Lookout, Mo., starting next Wednesday.
MVNU will square off with unseeded Bellevue
(Neb.) University (22-8) in the first round
next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. CST.
