Josh Estep, a member of the
Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball
team, was recently selected as the American
Mideast Conference Pitcher of the Week for
his performance on the mound during the week
of March 16-22.
Estep,
a senior right-hander from Gahanna, Ohio,
posted a 1-0 record with a 1.29 ERA for the
week. In his one appearance on the mound, he
earned the win in a 4-2 victory over then
No. 4 Spring Arbor (Mich.) University as he
out-dueled his NAIA All-American counterpart
Jesse Bachman. The former Gahanna Lincoln
High School standout allowed just four hits,
four walks, and two runs (one earned) over
seven innings with seven strikeouts.
On the season, Estep has posted a 4-1
record on the mound with a 3.66 ERA. In five
starts, he has worked a team-high 32 innings
with a team-leading 35 strikeouts and just
12 walks while tossing three complete games.
Opposing batters are hitting just .218
against him.
Estep also plays second base when not on
the mound and is among the leading hitters
for the Cougars with a .385 batting average
through 23 games. In 78 at bats, he has 30
hits with three doubles, one triple, one
home run, 18 RBI, and 20 runs scored. He
also has four stolen bases and has a .487
slugging percentage and a .438 on-base
percentage.
MVNU is currently 17-6 overall and 7-1 in
the AMC. The Cougars, who received votes in
the latest NAIA poll, will return to action
on Tuesday when they will host Shawnee State
University in a conference doubleheader at
1:00 p.m.
