The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s volleyball team has added
an important recruit for the 2009 season
with the addition of Haley Nofziger, who has
decided to further her education at MVNU and
continue her volleyball career with the Lady
Cougars.
Nofziger,
a 5-foot-9 middle hitter from Wauseon, Ohio,
was a standout volleyball player at
Pettisville High School. She was a two-time
Buckeye Border Conference and District 7
First Team selection as a junior and a
senior. She also helped lead the team both a
sectional and district championship as a
senior as the team advanced to the Sweet 16.
"Haley will be a great addition to our
team next year,” said MVNU coach Paul
Swanson, who is the NAIA’s all-time wins
leader (885) and has an 870-298 record in 25
years with the Lady Cougars. "We look
forward to adding her to the competitive mix
on our team. She is an outstanding athlete
who will now focus on just volleyball after
a very successful three-sport career in high
school.”
"Haley brings a strong physical presence
in the front row,” Swanson added. "She also
has great character and will thrive on our
Christian campus. She has a delightful
personality to add to our team.”
In addition to playing volleyball at
Pettisville and for the Premier Volleyball
Academy, Nofziger was a four-year
letterwinner in basketball and helped the
team to a No. 9 ranking in the final poll as
a senior. She was also an All-Ohioan in
track in the long jump where she set the
school and conference record as well as
setting school records in two relay events.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Nofziger of her college choice.
"Volleyball is a passion in my life that I
would love to continue through college. The
campus was gorgeous and homey and felt right
to me to call ‘home’. I feel safe and it’s a
great environment to gain new friendships
and work to grow stronger and closer with
the Lord.”
MVNU posted a 36-11 overall record in
2008, won the National Christian College
Athletic Association East Region title, and
finished as an NCCAA National Tournament
semifinalist. The Lady Cougars have won 30
or more matches in 16 straight seasons.
