The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University men’s cross country team has
signed an important recruit for the 2009
season with the addition of Anthony Lee, who
has decided to further his education and
continue his running career at MVNU.
Lee,
a native of Lisbon, Ohio, was named to the
Inter Tri-County League Honorable Mention
list and was a regional qualifier as a
senior at Lisbon David Anderson High School.
He was also selected as his team’s Most
Valuable Runner as a senior. His personal
best time in a 5K race was 17:30.
"Anthony is coming off a strong cross
country and track season to finish his
senior year in high school,” said MVNU coach
Chip Wilson. "He is a very determined person
who seems to be able to do anything he
focuses on. If he continues with that
attitude and work ethic, he will have an
opportunity to make an immediate impact on
our team. I am excited to see what he can do
at the college level.”
"As the valedictorian of his senior
class, it is clear that Anthony is a bright
young man who is ready for the next
challenge,” Wilson added. "I am glad that he
chose MVNU to further his learning and
running.”
In addition to running cross country and
track, Lee was a two-year member of National
Honor Society. He got straight A’s during
his four-year high school career to earn
valedictorian status.
"I chose to attend MVNU because of the
great ways I can grow deeper in Christ,”
said Lee of his college choice. "Not only
that, but I can also test my faith through
education and competition. This will be the
place where I hope everything comes
together.”
The MVNU cross country program was reborn
in the fall of 2006 after not having a
program since the 1979 season. The Cougars
have been very competitive in their first
three seasons back on the college cross
country map as evidenced by the team’s
results as MVNU finished seventh at the
American Mideast Conference meet in 2008 and
seventh out of 18 teams at the National
Christian College Athletic Association meet.
