Daniel Seiffert, a former
standout on the Mount Vernon Nazarene
University men’s soccer team, has been hired
to become the second head coach in the
10-year history of the MVNU women’s soccer
program.
“I
am very excited that Daniel will be joining
our coaching staff and leading our women’s
soccer program,” said MVNU athletic director
Scott Flemming. “He is not only a gifted
coach, but he is one of our own. I remember
how passionate he was during his playing
days at MVNU, and I see that same passion as
a coach. I believe that he is a young man
who can continue the great tradition that
has already been established. I have no
doubt that he will not only be successful on
the field, but that he will do it the right
way. Like the rest of our coaches, Daniel
sees this position as a great ministry
opportunity.”
Over the past two years, Seiffert has
served as the varsity assistant coach as
well as the junior varsity head coach at
Olentangy Liberty High School. During that
span, the varsity team won the Ohio Capital
Conference title in 2007 and his junior
varsity team went 19-4-3. In addition, he is
currently the head coach of the U9 Classics
club team, and he has both his NSCAA
Advanced Regional and USSF State D licenses.
A four-year member of the MVNU men’s
soccer team from 2003-2006, Seiffert played
in all 76 games during his four years with
69 starts as the Cougars posted a 40-28-8
overall record. He played primarily on the
defensive side of the ball and helped the
team post 22 shutouts during his four
seasons. He was named to the NCCAA East
Region Team and the American Mideast
Conference South Division Honorable Mention
Team as a senior and then capped off his
outstanding career by being selected as the
NCCAA’s Kyle Rote Jr. National Player of the
Year - an honor recognizing playing ability,
scholastic achievement, and positive
leadership qualities and Christian
character. He was also a two-time NAIA and
NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athlete with a 3.6
grade point average.
“I am excited about taking over the head
coaching job of the women’s program at
MVNU,” said Seiffert. “It is quite a
privilege to have this opportunity to come
back to my alma mater. I am really looking
forward to working with such a fine group of
players. There is a great tradition with the
women’s program and I know that this year’s
team is really looking forward to building
on that tradition. We also welcome the
continued support of the families, friends,
student body, and faculty and staff.”
In addition to being a part of the MVNU
men’s soccer program, Seiffert is also very
familiar with the Lady Cougars’ success. His
oldest sister, Amy, was on the inaugural
team that played as a club team in 1999 and
then played on the first varsity team in
2000 and was an NAIA and NCCAA All-America
Scholar-Athlete. Then, his other sister, Bethany, was a
two-time NAIA Honorable Mention All-American
at MVNU in 2001 and 2002.
Seiffert, who is single and a native of
Lewis Center, Ohio, will take over for
Jonathan Meade, who amassed a 134-61-7
overall record during nine successful
seasons that included two National Christian
College Athletic Association national titles
and four conference titles. He will take
over a program with a solid roster of
returning players as only two seniors
graduated from the squad that went 16-8-1
last year and 9-3-1 in the AMC. The Lady
Cougars will open the season on August 27 at
East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University.
