The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University men’s cross country team has
signed another recruit for the 2009 season
with the addition of Mark Rednour, who has
decided to further his education and
continue his running career at MVNU.
Rednour,
a native of Strongsville, Ohio, was a part
of the cross country program at Strongsville
High School, but was limited to just one
race as a senior due to a season-ending
injury. With an unofficial personal best of
17:55 in a 5K time trial, he has not run
competitively since his sophomore season. He
has logged several first-place finishes in
his age group in local 5K races including
the Fleet Feet Sports River Run and the
Hannah Werke Memorial Smile with Me 5K.
"Mark is coming to MVNU with limited
running experience due to injuries, but I am
excited to see him healthy and ready to
run,” said MVNU coach Chip Wilson. "When I
saw him run, I noticed a strong runner who
is willing to work hard to make himself
better. With that positive mindset, he is
capable of achieving success at the college
level. I think he will surprise himself this
fall, and I believe that he is ready for
this new experience.”
In addition to running cross country,
Rednour was a member of National Honor
Society, a DARE role model, a DECA state
qualifier, and a member of Tri-Musical
Honors Society.
"There are several reasons why I chose to
attend MVNU,” said Rednour of his college
choice. "I like the location and the solid
Christian atmosphere. I also felt like I
belonged here.”
The MVNU cross country program was reborn
in the fall of 2006 after not having a
program since the 1979 season. The Cougars
have been very competitive in their first
three seasons back on the college cross
country map as evidenced by the team’s
results as MVNU finished seventh at the
American Mideast Conference meet in 2008 and
seventh out of 18 teams at the National
Christian College Athletic Association meet.
