MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (2-3-2009) -
The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s basketball team will join
with over 1,250 other teams from around the
country to take part in the Women’s
Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) "Pink
Zone” initiative when the Lady Cougars
sponsor "Pink Zone Night” on Friday,
February 13, in conjunction with the Lady
Cougars’ American Mideast Conference game
against Houghton (N.Y.) College at 5:30 p.m.

The WBCA’s "Pink Zone” initiative is a
global, unified effort for the WBCA’s
coaches to assist in raising breast cancer
awareness on the court, across campuses, in
communities and beyond. "Pink Zone”
(formerly known at "Think Pink”) began in
2007 with more than 120 schools
participating to make the inaugural event a
success. In 2008, over 1,200 teams and
organizations participated, reaching over
830,000 fans and raising over $930,000 for
breast cancer awareness and research
including over $1,200 that was raised by
MVNU. This year, the involvement has
continued to grow as teams will participate
during the week of February 13-22, which the
WBCA designated as "Pink Zone Week”.
In preparation for MVNU’s "Pink Zone
Night”, black t-shirts with pink lettering
are being sold for $7 in the MVNU athletic
department. The t-shirts, which will also be
available the night of the game, will serve
as the ticket for the event. All proceeds
from the t-shirt and ticket sales as well as
all donations received at the game will go
directly to help support breast cancer
awareness and research at local
organizations.

Zone Night”, please contact Steve Gregory at
