Three members of the Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women’s soccer
team were recently honored when the National
Christian College Athletic Association
All-American Teams were announced.

Mara Hughes, a junior defender from
Pickerington, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA
All-American First Team. Hughes started all
25 matches for the Lady Cougars this season
and anchored a defense that posted 13
shutouts and allowed just 23 goals. The
former Pickerington North High School
standout also provided an offensive spark as
she scored six goals and registered one
assist on the year.
Page Miller, a senior midfielder from
Bethel, Ohio, joined Hughes on the NCCAA
All-American First Team. The former
Bethel-Tate High School star recorded eight
goals and two assists as she started all 25
matches this year. She finishes her career
ranked fifth in school history in assists
(19) and sixth in both goals (29) and points
(77).
Jessica Estep, a sophomore forward from
Mansfield, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA
All-American Second Team for the second
straight year. The former Madison High
School standout led MVNU with 20 goals and
nine assists while starting all 25 matches
this year. She already ranks fifth in school
history in both career goals (42) and career
points (96).
The Lady Cougars finished the 2008 season
with a 16-8-1 overall record that included
advancing to the American Mideast Conference
Tournament semifinals and winning the NCCAA
East Region Tournament in addition to a
fifth-place finish at the NCCAA National
Tournament.
