Amanda Himes, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
basketball team, has been selected as the
American Mideast Conference Player of the
Week for the third time in four weeks
already this season as she was honored this
time for her performance during the week of
December 1-7.
Himes,
a 6-foot-1 sophomore center from Hilliard,
Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 3-0 record
during the week that included winning both
of the team’s games at the Ohio Dominican
University Classic as she was named to the
All-Tournament Team. She posted her fifth
double-double of the season with 19 points
and 15 rebounds in a 90-58 victory over
Wilberforce University to begin the week.
She added 20 points and 11 rebounds in just
19 minutes in an 86-42 win over Carlow (Pa.)
University in the first round of the Ohio
Dominican Classic. Then, she capped off the
week with 24 points and eight rebounds in
just 21 minutes in an 86-65 win over the
University of Cincinnati-Clermont in the
second round of the Ohio Dominican Classic.
The former Hilliard Darby High School
standout averaged 21.0 points and 11.3
rebounds for the week while shooting 52.3
percent from the field (23-for-44) and 70.8
percent from the free throw line
(17-for-24).
On the season, Himes leads the Lady
Cougars in scoring (22.5 ppg), rebounding
(11.6 rpg), field goal percentage (52.8
percent), and blocked shots (15). She is
also shooting 68.8 percent at the free throw
line and has recorded eight assists and 14
steals in 10 games.
MVNU is off to the best start in school
history with a 10-0 record so far. The Lady
Cougars will return to action on Saturday at
5:30 p.m. when they will host Kenyon College
in a non-conference game between the two
Knox County institutions.
