The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s fastpitch softball team
has added an important recruit to the team’s
roster for the 2010 season with the addition
of Jill Wildermuth, who has decided to
further her education and continue her
softball career at MVNU.
Wildermuth, a
pitcher/infielder from DeGraff, Ohio, posted
an 11-9 record on the mound with a 0.63 ERA
with 130 strikeouts in 123 innings of work
as a senior at Indian Lake High School. She
also batted. 472 with six doubles, one
triple, eight RBI, and 20 runs scored. As a
junior, she set school records with 20 wins
and 192 strikeouts as she was named the
Central Buckeye Conference Mad River
Division Player of the Year and an All-Ohio
Second Team selection. She was selected as
the team’s Most Valuable Player all four
years, was a three-time All-CBC selection,
and was a two-time participant in the
Southwest District All-Star game.
"We are very excited about signing Jill,”
said MVNU coach Jeana Howald. "We are hoping
that she will step right in and give us good
innings on the mound as she is a very
talented pitcher. She is also capable of
playing third base for us and is a solid
hitter. She will help make us a better
team.”
In addition to playing softball at Indian
Lake and the Ohio Classics Black team for
two years, Wildermuth was a four-year member
of the soccer team as well as being active
in Key Club, 4-H, and Varsity L Club all
four years. She was a CBC Honor Student all
four years and had perfect attendance all
four years as well as being the
valedictorian of her class with a 4.0 grade
point average. In addition, she was a member
of National Honor Society, SADD, Junior Fair
Board, and Science Club and was chosen as
the prom queen her senior year.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Wildermuth of her college
choice. "I like the small-school, Christian
atmosphere. The people seem very friendly
and welcoming. I also feel comfortable
around the girls on the softball team and
with the coaches.”
MVNU is an NAIA school that competes in
the American Mideast Conference. The Lady
Cougars posted a 22-17 overall record in
2009, and the program has an all-time mark
of 573-387-2 in the 25 years of the
program’s history. The team also advanced to
the championship game of the AMC Tournament
in 2009 to come just one step away from
qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament
for the second straight year.
