The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University baseball team has added an
important recruit to the team’s roster for
the 2010 season with the addition of Randon
McNeil, who has decided to further his
education and continue his baseball career
at MVNU.
McNeil,
a first baseman from Springfield, Ohio,
posted a .398 batting average with six
doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 30 runs
scored, and 35 RBI as a senior at Kenton
Ridge High School. He was named to the
Central Buckeye Conference First Team, the
Clark County Coaches Association First Team
and Co-Player of the Year, the Springfield
News-Sun All-Area Team and Player of the
Year, and the All-Miami Valley First Team.

"Randon had a tremendous senior season at
Kenton Ridge,” said MVNU coach Keith Veale,
who has posted a 676-331 record in 20
seasons at the helm of the Cougars. "His
junior season Kenton Ridge played in the
state semifinals and he was an integral part
of that team as well. He has some pop in his
bat and is very capable around first base
defensively. We like his approach to the
game. He is a hard worker with a teachable
attitude.”
In addition to playing baseball for Kenton
Ridge and for the Springfield Bulldogs,
McNeil was a two-time CBC First Team honoree
in golf and also the 2009 Sportsman of the
year in basketball. He helped the golf,
basketball, and baseball teams each to a
conference title during his senior year. He
was a member of both National Honor Society
and Spanish Honor Society as well as being
involved in choir, show choir, Leo Club, and
serving as a speaker for Fellowship of
Christian Athletes.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said McNeil of his college choice. "I
wanted the opportunity to play baseball and
MVNU has a very successful baseball program.
I also wanted to attend a smaller school
with a Christian atmosphere.”

MVNU is an NAIA school that competes in
the American Mideast Conference. The Cougars
posted a 35-21 overall record in 2009 and
advanced to the semifinals of the National
Christian College Athletic Association
National Tournament. The team also qualified
for the NAIA playoffs for the 19th time in
the past 20 seasons. Over the years, MVNU
has had 13 players drafted by Major League
teams including Tim Belcher, who was the top
pick overall in the 1983 draft. Seven other
former players have signed free agent
contracts to play professional baseball.
