The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s fastpitch softball team
has added an important recruit to the team’s
roster for the 2010 season with the addition
of Loren Kiser, who has decided to further
her education and continue her softball
career at MVNU.
Kiser,
a third baseman/catcher from London, Ohio,
batted .422 with seven doubles, two home
runs, 22 runs scored, and 20 RBI in 26 games
as a senior at Madison Plains High School as
she was named to the South Central Ohio
League First Team and the All-Madison County
First Team for the third straight season.
She finished as the program’s all-time RBI
leader and she collected over 100 base hits
for her career.
"Loren is a good addition to our team,”
said MVNU coach Jeana Howald. "She has lots
of experience at both third base and behind
the plate at catcher. She is a solid hitter
with a good arm and is a good all-around
player. She will have some big shoes to fill
at third base after recent graduate Karly
Clay manned that position for the past four
years.”
In addition to playing softball at
Madison Plains and for various summer teams
(Buckeye Bandits, South Charleston Sparks,
Miami Valley Vipers, and Ohio Danger), Kiser
also played two years of basketball, one
year of volleyball, and ran one year of
cross country. She was the president of BOLD
(Building Our Lives Drug-free, an FFA Star
Greenhand, a two-time scholar-athlete, and a
four-year recipient of the academic
achievement award for having a 3.5 grade
point average or higher.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Kiser of her college choice.
"MVNU is a great Christian-based school with
strong academics and a great softball
program. The campus is beautiful and the
people are all very welcoming and friendly.”
MVNU is an NAIA school that competes in
the American Mideast Conference. The Lady
Cougars posted a 22-17 overall record in
2009, and the program has an all-time mark
of 573-387-2 in the 25 years of the
program’s history. The team also advanced to
the championship game of the AMC Tournament
in 2009 to come just one step away from
qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament
for the second straight year.
