The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University baseball team has added an
important recruit to the team’s roster for
the 2010 season with the addition of Brandon
Fuller, who has decided to further his
education and continue his baseball career
at MVNU.
Fuller,
a pitcher/infielder from Cincinnati, Ohio,
posted a 3-0 record on the mound with two
saves and a 2.13 ERA with 26 strikeouts in
23 innings as a senior at Glen Este High
School. He also batted .354 with eight
doubles, one home run, 17 runs scored, and
15 RBI in 28 games. He was a two-time
All-Fort Ancient Valley Conference selection
as a junior and a senior.
"Brandon is coming from two premier
baseball experiences - Glen Este High School
and the Columbus Cobras,” said MVNU coach
Keith Veale, who has posted a 676-331 record
in 20 seasons at the helm of the Cougars.
"He has played at a very high level this
summer and performed very well. His baseball
background should allow him to get into the
competitive mix early in his career. We were
attracted to his ability on the mound, but
we have not ignored the possibility of
position play as well. He is a big, strong
athlete with a nice competitive makeup.”
In addition to playing baseball for Glen
Este, Fuller has posted a 4-0 record with
one save, 26 strikeouts, and a 1.45 ERA in
29 innings of work on the mound this summer
for the Columbus Cobras 18-and-under team
that has posted a 46-6 record. He also
batted .347 with nine doubles, three home
runs, and 30 RBI. In addition, Fuller played
basketball for two years at Glen Este,
received the Outstanding Chemistry Award in
2007, and has been a Disabled American
Veterans volunteer.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Fuller of his college choice.
"From the first time that I stepped on the
campus, it felt like home. I love the
campus, the friendly people, and the
Christian environment. MVNU has a great
academic reputation, and the reputation of
Coach Veale and the baseball program speaks
for itself. I am very excited to join the
MVNU family and am looking forward to
growing spiritually, academically, and
athletically.”
MVNU is an NAIA school that competes in
the American Mideast Conference. The Cougars
posted a 35-21 overall record in 2009 and
advanced to the semifinals of the National
Christian College Athletic Association
National Tournament. The team also qualified
for the NAIA playoffs for the 19th time in
the past 20 seasons. Over the years, MVNU
has had 13 players drafted by Major League
teams including Tim Belcher, who was the top
pick overall in the 1983 draft. Seven other
former players have signed free agent
contracts to play professional baseball.
