MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (4-8-2009) - Josh Estep, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team, has been selected as the American Mideast Conference Player of the Week for his performance during the week of March 30-April 5.

Estep, a senior second baseman/pitcher from Gahanna, Ohio, led the Cougars to a 4-2 record for the week as he batted .579 (11-for-19) with an .842 slugging percentage as he registered at least one hit in all six games and had at least one RBI in five of the six games. The former Gahanna Lincoln High School star also handled 18 fielding chances without an error and went 1-1 on the mound with a 2.57 ERA as he struck out 13 batters in 14 innings of work and allowed just one walk.

Estep’s best performance came in the second game of a doubleheader versus Shawnee State University on March 31 when he went 3-for-3 with a walk and a home run as he drove in four runs and scored four times. He also added two hits and two RBI in three of the four games during MVNU’s four-game series with Walsh with the Cougars winning each of those three games.

On the season, Estep is batting .423 (41-for-97) as he leads the team in hits (41) and RBI (29). He has also recorded five doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 27 runs scored and is 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. On the mound, the right-hander has posted a 5-2 record with a 3.33 ERA with five complete games in seven starts. In 46 innings of work, Estep has struck out a team-leading 48 batters and issued just 13 walks. Opposing batters are hitting just .213 against him.

MVNU will return to action on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. when the Cougars will host AMC-leading Ohio Dominican University in an important conference doubleheader at Cougar Field.
