Josh Estep, a member of the
Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball
team, has been selected as the American
Mideast Conference Player of the Week for
his performance during the week of March
30-April 5.
Estep,
a senior second baseman/pitcher from
Gahanna, Ohio, led the Cougars to a 4-2
record for the week as he batted .579
(11-for-19) with an .842 slugging percentage
as he registered at least one hit in all six
games and had at least one RBI in five of
the six games. The former Gahanna Lincoln
High School star also handled 18 fielding
chances without an error and went 1-1 on the
mound with a 2.57 ERA as he struck out 13
batters in 14 innings of work and allowed
just one walk.
Estep’s best performance came in the
second game of a doubleheader versus Shawnee
State University on March 31 when he went
3-for-3 with a walk and a home run as he
drove in four runs and scored four times. He
also added two hits and two RBI in three of
the four games during MVNU’s four-game
series with Walsh with the Cougars winning
each of those three games.
On the season, Estep is batting .423
(41-for-97) as he leads the team in hits
(41) and RBI (29). He has also recorded five
doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 27
runs scored and is 5-for-5 in stolen base
attempts. On the mound, the right-hander has
posted a 5-2 record with a 3.33 ERA with
five complete games in seven starts. In 46
innings of work, Estep has struck out a
team-leading 48 batters and issued just 13
walks. Opposing batters are hitting just
.213 against him.
MVNU will return to action on Wednesday
at 1:00 p.m. when the Cougars will host
AMC-leading Ohio Dominican University in an
important conference doubleheader at Cougar
Field.
