MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Jessica Estep, a member
of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University
women’s soccer team, was recently selected
as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA
Region IX Offensive Player of the Week for
her performance during the week of September
10-16.
Estep,
a freshman forward from Mansfield, Ohio, led
the Lady Cougars to a 1-0-1 record for the
week as MVNU captured the title of their own
W.g. Grinders Cougar Classic. The former
Madison High School star scored her first
two goals of the season and added an assist
in a 5-0 win over Nyack (N.Y.) College in
the first round. Then, she assisted on the
game-tying goal with 3:09 left in regulation
as the Lady Cougars tied 18th-ranked Berry
(Ga.) College 1-1 in double overtime.
On the season, Estep ranks second for
MVNU with three goals scored and is tied for
the team lead with two assists. Most
recently, she had the assist on the Lady
Cougars’ only goal on Wednesday afternoon as
MVNU edged Tiffin University 1-0.
The Lady Cougars are currently 5-2-1
overall on the season. MVNU will host Urbana
University (8-1-0) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday
in the AMC South Division opener for both
teams.
