MVNU Women's Soccer Team to Honor Seniors on Tuesday
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (10-22-2007) - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s soccer team will honor its six seniors on Tuesday afternoon at halftime of the Lady Cougars’ American Mideast Conference South Division match with Cedarville University that starts at 4:00 p.m.

Over the past four seasons, MVNU has posted a 55-22-4 overall record (.704 winning percentage) and a 24-3-1 AMC South Division mark (.875 winning percentage). The Lady Cougars have won two conference titles (2004 and 2006) and one National Christian College Athletic Association national title (2006). This year, MVNU is currently 11-4-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the AMC South Division needing a win against Cedarville to claim a share of its second straight conference title.

Stephanie Riley, a student assistant from Springfield, Ohio, has spent four years with the Lady Cougars - two as a player and two as a student assistant. The former Greenon High School product was a defender during her playing days and has been responsible for keeping track of MVNU’s statistics during matches for the past two years.

"Stephanie has been a joy to have on the team both as a player and now as a statistician,” said MVNU head coach Jonathan Meade. "She has such a giving heart and has done an excellent job trying to make two detail-oriented people, myself and Dave Parsons, happy. She has succeeded as both a player and a statistician and we appreciate all the time she has given to this program.”

Melissa Peters, a goalkeeper from Troy, Ohio, has played in eight matches this season - her first with the Lady Cougars. She began her college career at Indiana Wesleyan University before transferring to MVNU after being injured as a freshman. The former Troy Christian High School standout has posted a 1.97 goals against average with 10 saves this season.

"Even though Melissa has only played here for one year, I know that we as a team have benefitted from having her on the team,” said Meade. "After not playing competitively for a couple of years, she took on a big challenge to show that she could compete at this level. She has worked very hard, and her determination has been a good model to others on the team. I respect how she has been open to whatever God had for her this season and how God could best use her to minister to her teammates.”

Molly Dible, a midfielder from Hilliard, Ohio, has seen action in 35 career matches and has recorded one assist during her four-year career with the Lady Cougars. The former Hilliard Darby High School graduate has only seen action in three matches this season due to injuries.

"It is a shame that Molly’s season has been plagued with injuries,” said Meade. "After she had a strong finish in 2006 and especially her play at the NCCAA national tournament, I was really excited for her coming into this year. I know that it has been frustrating, but she has handled things with a lot of grace. God has blessed her with a big heart when it comes to uplifting teammates and she will be missed.”

Jessica Pagano, a midfielder from Findlay, Ohio, has seen action in 58 career matches and recorded three career assists during her four years on the team. This season, the former Toledo Christian High School product has played in 15 matches and registered one assist. She was an NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete last season and is up for those honors again this year.

"Jessica has been one of the top academic leaders on this team from her very first semester,” said Meade. "I am thankful for her dedication to excellence. She has been a positive role model on the field as well. She has taken every opportunity to make herself better capping things off with her best season yet. I am sure that her strong faith in God has helped guide her in keeping her academic life and athletic life balanced. I am positive that God has great plans for her after her time at MVNU is over.”

Stacy Robey, a defender from New Carlisle, Ohio, has played in 80 career matches with 54 career starts over the past four years. The former Northwestern High School standout has recorded two goals and eight assists in her career and been a part of 27 shutouts. She was an AMC South Division Honorable Mention pick in 2005, and she was named an NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete last year and is up for those honors again this season. She has started all 16 matches this year and has registered two assists.

"A lot has changed for Stacy in the past four years,” said Meade. "I really did not know if she would make it being away from home during her first week here, but as time went on she started to feel better about being away. Now, I look at her and I see someone who would not mind teaching overseas - what a change. She has had a wonderful career. I can still remember seeing her 40-yard goal at the (NCCAA) national tournament her freshman year against Chowan - I’m not sure that I have ever jumped higher. Over her four years here, I have come to expect big plays from her. I’m thankful that she has kept her faith in God at the heart of what she is all about. She will be missed.”

Kristy Brandolini, a forward from Twinsburg, Ohio, has played in 79 career matches with 78 career starts. The former Twinsburg High School star is tied for the school record in career goals with 67 and ranks second in career assists (45) and career points (179). She also holds the single-match school records for goals (4), assists (4), and points (10), and she has registered a school-record six career hat tricks. Among her many honors, she has been a two-time NAIA Honorable Mention All-American, an NCCAA First Team All-American, and the AMC South Division Freshman of the Year. This season, she has totaled 11 goals and a team-leading 12 assists.

"I have really enjoyed having the opportunity to coach Kristy and watch her play,” said Meade. "She has provided a lot of exciting moments on and off the field. I’m sure that it will be awhile before we have someone as graceful as her with the ball at her feet. I am proud of her great individual milestones along the way but even more proud that she has been a team player since the first time that she stepped on the field. She has had a superb career.”

A win over Cedarville would give the Lady Cougars a share of the AMC South Division title with Ohio Dominican University as both teams would finish with a 5-1-0 conference mark. MVNU has won three conference titles in the past four years (2003, 2004, and 2006). The AMC Tournament will start this Saturday with the first round that will feature the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds from both the AMC North and South Divisions playing. A win for the Lady Cougars would also give them a first-round bye and advance them into the NAIA Region IX Final Four next weekend.
